{"id":6134,"date":"2020-11-20T17:48:58","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T17:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youthhaven.ca\/?p=6134"},"modified":"2020-11-20T20:29:31","modified_gmt":"2020-11-20T20:29:31","slug":"youth-haven-launches-boxes-of-hope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youthhaven.ca\/youth-haven-launches-boxes-of-hope\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Haven launches Boxes Of Hope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas is around the corner and Youth Haven is hoping the community will once again choose to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/youthhavencanada\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">#bethedifference<\/span><\/a> in the lives of youth who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/youthhaven.ca\/boxes-of-hope\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Boxes of Hope<\/span><\/a> campaign kicked off on Friday, November 13, 2020.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fyouthhavencanada%2Fvideos%2F703860696912259%2F&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"429\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The purchase of a Box of Hope for $50 will be used to buy gift cards, toiletries, hygiene products, games, bus tokens, food, winter clothing and other items for youth 16-24 in the care of Youth Haven, both through our shelter and outreach services.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt is truly amazing to see how grateful these young people are on Christmas morning,\u201d <\/em>says Lucy Gowers, Youth Haven executive director.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey know the gift package they receive only happened because of the generosity and compassion of the communities we work in, which is Barrie, Orillia and all of Simcoe County.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gowers explains it goes beyond just the presents.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cFor our youth, many are alone, without immediate family. To receive a present means for them a sense of belonging and that they are not forgotten.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/webapps.9c9media.com\/vidi-player\/1.9.14\/share\/iframe.html?currentId=2077019&amp;config=ctvnews\/share.json&amp;kruxId=&amp;rsid=bellmedianewsprod,bellmediaglobalprod&amp;siteName=CTVNews&amp;cid=%5B%7B%22contentId%22%3A2077019%2C%22ad%22%3A%7B%22adsite%22%3A%22ctv.ctvnews%22%2C%22adzone%22%3A%22embed%22%7D%7D%5D\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/barrie.ctvnews.ca\/boxes-of-hope-provide-homeless-youths-a-christmas-1.5188309?fbclid=IwAR2eCML6eUkEB59XTxfsZbfbFiQlMQfqEE7-cWfIi905AQ24aO7R_rk2Lf4\">(Kim Phillips\/CTV Barrie)<\/a><\/h5>\n<h4>More than 400-area youth used the services of Youth Haven last year. It\u2019s estimated <span style=\"color: #88c540;\">one in three people using emergency shelter services in Simcoe County are youth<\/span>.<\/h4>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI recall one of our volunteers sharing a story with me about a young male, I believe 16-years-old, who received his Christmas gift package of items purchased through Boxes of Hope, during the first year of this campaign,\u201d <\/em>says Gowers<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe volunteer told me this young person was so excited to receive presents of toiletries, gloves, socks and a toque. He also got a sweatshirt, which he immediately put on. He told our volunteer that this was the first time in several years that someone had given him a Christmas present.
