As Canadians, we like to take pride in our universal health-care system, in our social safety net.

We like to believe that we’ve evolved into a democracy that does not toss to the curb those people who need help, those who have fallen on hard times, or slipped through the cracks of our system.

So how can it be in any way acceptable for us to allow homeless people, many of them teenagers, to live in jeopardy on our streets?
